Brazil and Mexico are playing the fifth game in the Round of 16 today! Mexico have reached this stage in the past 6 World cups and never succeeded to qualify for the quarterfinals in those 6 tournaments. The last time they played in a World Cup quarterfinal was in 1986 when the World Cup was held in their country.
Brazil, on the other side have always qualified in the quarterfinals in the past 5 World Cups. They have a great generation led by Neymar and Phillipe Coutinho and they hope to add their sixth star on their crest.
As usual, there are no surprises in the Brazilian first 11. Marcelo didn’t make the first team because he is injured, but all the other regular starters are playing. Gabriel Jesus was criticized in the past days for his performances but he will start again and Firmino will wait for his chance on the bench
Confirmed Brazil’s 11:
Alisson; Fagner, Thiago Silva, Miranda, Filipe Luis; Casemiro, Paulinho, Phillipe Coutinho; Neymar, Willian, Gabriel Jesus.
On the other hand, Mexico’s first team has a big surprise in it. The 39 years old veteran Rafael Marquez will play from the start, hoping to help his team against the Brazilians. This is a rather odd decision because of Marquez’s age and Brazil’s quickness. Hector Herrera and Andres Guardado will be playing box to box to try to hurt Brazil.
Seeing Mexico’s lineup we can only conclude that they are not afraid and that they will look for their chance on the counter.
Confirmed Mexico’s 11:
Guillermo Ochoa; Edson Alvarez, Hugo Ayala, Carlos Salcedo, Jesus Gallardo; Rafael Marquez, Andres Guardado, Hector Herrera; Hirving Lozano, Carles Vela, Javier Hernandez Chicharito.
We have seen a lot of surprises in the tournament so far and there is a chance to see another in this game. Mexico played two great games against Germany and South Korea and were thrashed by Sweden in the third game. They must be disciplined at the back and they must use their chances well. Brazil will surely punish them if Mexico leave space.
Brazil to go through in a very close game
