Essam El-Hadary: The Record Breaker!

The lineups for the Egypt vs Saudi Arabia have been confirmed and a historical moment is upon us. Finally, Essam El-Hadary will play in a World Cup.

The legendary goalkeeper has been trying to play in this tournament throughout his whole career. He started to defend his country’s colors in 1996 and Egypt had participated in a World Cup 6 years before that.

While he won the Africa Cup of Nations – 4 times during the period he has been playing for his national team, Egypt didn’t qualify for a single World Cup. This is El-Hadary’s first one and it is truly deserved.

Essam El-Hadary will set the new record for the oldest player to ever play in the World Cup. He is 45 years 161 days old.

The Colombian goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon held this record since 2014 (43 y 3 d, Colombia 4 – 1 Japan ). The third on the list is the legendary Roger Milla  (42 y 39 d, Cameroon 1 – 6 Russia, 1994).

Egypt’s 11:

Essam El-Hadary; Fathi, Ali Gabr, Hegazi, Abdelshafi; Elneny, Tarek, Trezeguet, Salah, Abdallah Said; Mohsen.

Saudi Arabia’s 11:

Almosailem; Osama, Aburayk, Yasser, Motaz; Salman, Hatan, Otayf, Hussain, Salem, Fahad.

This game will not be of a big importance like the match between Uruguay and Russia. Egypt and Saudi Arabia will try to go home with dignity, having won at least one game.
