As of today, Alvaro Odriozola is officially a Real Madrid player! The Madrid club has confirmed the transfer in the social media.

Real Madrid will reportedly pay around 40 million euros for the young Spanish right back. Alvaro Odriozola is only 22 years old but he has already played 50 games in the Spanish top division for Real Sociedad and 4 games for the senior national team.

He had his debut on 16th of January 2017 for the first team and then played in 16 competitive matches for Real Sociedad.

He started the 2017/18 season as a regular starter of the team and had a wonderful season. At the end of the season he even entered in the 23 men Spanish squad for the World Cup. Players like Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto and Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin were not called up because of him.

Despite being a full-back Odriozola’s Defensive profile shows that there is certainly room for improvement on this aspect of his game if he plans to be considered as the regular Real Madrid right back for the years to come. It is a fact that he made his mark at Real Sociedad with some amazing attacking displays and despite an obviously decent defensive baseline he will need to put in some real effort and hard work in order to balance up his defensive behavior.

Odriozola is an offensive minded defender, something that is verified easily when looking at his Attacking profile. One of the most Productive players in the league last season, very mobile (Runs 98%) and a constant threat for opposition defenses with an astonishing 91% at Chance Creation.

At Madrid he will be facing strong competition by Dani Carvajal but he can surely provide efficient coverage and why not used in squad rotation, allowing Carvajal some much needed rest during the coming season.

It will be very exciting to see how Lopetegui will use these two fantastic right backs. Real Madrid seem to have secured their right back position for the next 10 years.

If you would like to compare these two right backs, you could do that here.
