Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano was one of the best players in the first round of the World Cup and caught the eye of the best European teams. The Catalan giant FC Barcelona is among them according to the Spanish reports. The media outlets say that Barcelona are ready to splash big money on the Mexican winger.
He didn’t only have a nice start of the World Cup but he was also fantastic in PSV this season. He scored 17 and assisted 11 goals in the league. What is even more impressive is that this was his first season in The Netherlands. In the previous season he was the CONCACAF Champions League top scorer and won the competition with his team Pachuca. He was even awarded with The Best Young Player award.
Barcelona waited for Griezmann to decide whether he will stay in Atletico or go to Barcelona and the Frenchman finally decided to stay. The Catalan are now pursuing other players and Lozano is among them. Lozano’s father even confirmed that there have been some contacts with them.
“There’s been an approach from Barça but there’s nothing clear at the moment,” Lozano’s father told ESPN. “When the World Cup’s over, we will have a better idea of the reality: if he will stay at PSV or move to another team.”
‘Chucky’ Lozano mostly plays as a left winger. He can also play on the right wing, as an attacking midfielder and a forward. Ernesto Valverde would probably use him on the left wing while Coutinho would play as an attacking midfielder. Ousmane Dembele is also a winger who can play on both flanks so these two young superstars can even switch positions during the game.
These are Lozano’s passing stats. He is a vertical player like Dembele and this is not his strongest side. However he is a great passer in the final third. He made more assists than 89% of all the players in the Dutch League. Suarez and Messi will surely like this guy. He won’t be expected to create so much so the underwhelming passing statistics are not so important.
Now this is amazing. Actually, this is one of the things that Barcelona missed this past season. A Pedro-esque winger making the runs down the left and being a prolific goal scorer. Lozano was one of the best finishers in the league (87%) and was more productive in front of the goal than 91% of all the players in Eredivisie. The Mexican was involved in more promising situations and had more key touches than 87%. His ability on the ball was better than 88% of the players according to Football-IQ too. These are all abilities required in the Catalan giant. What’s maybe the most important for Leo Messi, Hirving Lozano had more forward runs than 90% of all the other players in the Dutch league.
All of these amazing stats were the reason why the famous football agent Mino Raiola snatched Hirving Lozano. If these were the numbers in his first season in Europe not even knowing the language of the country he played in, what can we expect from this little fellow in the seasons to come? 50 million euros is maybe a big price for Lozano, but it should only get higher as the World Cup goes in the later stages. That price could prove to be a bargain for Barcelona if the Mexican fulfills his potential.
One thing is certain, the Football-IQ index data says that he was the best young attacker in the Eredivisie. Will Barcelona react fast and try to buy “Chucky’ right now? All we know is that an attack consisted of Lozano – Messi – Dembele would be very hard to stop. We can only wait and see what will happen in the future of this talented Mexican.
